About CalculatedPath

    College admissions runs on public rules and public data. UC publishes the approved course list for every California high school. The College Board publishes how every AP exam scored. The GPA formulas are official documents. The problem: most of it is buried in PDFs and portals, or paraphrased by sites trying to sell you something.

    CalculatedPath does two things with that data. It gives you tools to plan high school and get ready for college applications. And it publishes the numbers that are strangely hard to find anywhere else, kept current and readable. Everything here is free to use, and built for students first.

    The tools

    • 4-Year Course Planner - plan all four years on your school's actual UC-approved course list, and watch your UC, CSU, and Cal Poly SLO GPAs and A-G progress update as you build.
    • UC GPA Calculator - your three UC GPAs (unweighted, capped weighted, fully weighted) with the honors caps handled correctly, plus Campus Matches that compare your GPA to admit ranges at each UC.
    • CSU GPA Calculator - your CSU admission GPA, including Cal Poly SLO's ninth-grade rule and college courses counting double.
    • Extracurricular Tracker - one master list of your activities and awards, shaped into UC and Common App formats without retyping anything.

    The calculators and planner share course data, so you enter your courses once.

    The data

    • School course lists - the official UC A-G catalog for thousands of California high schools, updated daily. Find your school and see exactly which courses count.
    • AP scores - score distributions for all 40 AP exams, every year since 2002, in charts instead of PDFs.
    • Guides - short, sourced explanations of the rules behind the tools: UC and CSU GPA math, the A-G requirements, campus matches, AP score trends.

    Getting the numbers right

    The GPA rules come straight from UC and CSU documentation, including the edge cases most calculators skip: honors caps and sub-caps, SLO's extra year, dual enrollment counting double. Where a rule has a source, we cite it. If you catch a number that's wrong, tell us. We treat wrong numbers as bugs.

    Privacy

    The calculators and planner work without an account, and signed-out work stays in your browser. Signing in is optional: it autosaves your calculator state and lets the site save your work across devices. The Extracurricular Tracker saves your list to your account as you build it; you can explore an example without signing in. We are not affiliated with any university, test-prep company, or admissions consultant.

    Who makes this

    CalculatedPath is built by a parent who ran into these questions and was unimpressed with the answers online. The standard here is the same as for production software: get the calculations right, cite the rules, and fix what's wrong fast.
